New neighbors have come to town to start a Pony Express and Hannah can’t wait to learn more about it!
Experience the excitement with Hannah as you read each chapter of ‘Hannah’s Diary: A Tale of the Pony Express’, a new story for young readers starting this week.
Living on the American frontier, Hannah learns about losing a best friend, fun on the riverboats and the importance of working hard to make a dream come true.
A chapter of ‘Hannah’s Diary’ will be published each week for eight weeks. Included at the end of each chapter are Classroom Extensions to get young readers thinking and learning more about topics presented in the story.
Written for newspapers by Neosho historian Kay Hively, and illustrated by Neosho artist Billie Gofourth-Stewart, ‘Hannah’s Diary’ will entertain readers, young and old, and offer glimpses into our rich history.
‘Hannah’s Diary’ is the first in a series of historical children’s fiction stories Hively and Gofourth-Stewart are producing for young newspaper readers starting this week in the Gallatin North Missourian.
Hively is a free-lance writer and historian who writes regularly for the Neosho Daily News. In addition to her newspaper work, she writes for magazines and has published several books and songs. Three of her songs were recorded on a duet album featuring county music legend, Merle Haggard, and gospel music legend, Albert E. Brumley, Jr.
Gofourth-Stewart has illustrated book covers and juvenile books. She recently completed an 88-foot-wide historical mural in the Newton County courthouse.
