Nashville recording artist Lionel Cartwright is the featured Saturday night entertainment for the 2001 Daviess County Chautauqua, scheduled for Sept. 14-15-16 on the Gallatin square. The Girlfriends will be the opening act for the well-known vocalist and song writer.
A new event on this year’s schedule is the Chautauqua Junior Rodeo, which will held on Sunday at Dockery Park in Gallatin. The rodeo boasts 10 events and will offer all-around buckles for boys and girls in three age divisions.
The Chautauqua gets underway at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 14 with gospel music by the Toney Family, followed by the Krazy Kats, a popular band featuring music from the ‘50s & ‘60s.
The slate of events on Saturday is long, and includes the annual quilt show, tours of the historic rotary jail, and an art exhibition, Main stage events include a baby show, talent show, a Missouri Highway Patrolman turned comedian (Jim Lysaght), and several dance performances. Gospel music and performances by local vocalists are scheduled under the tent which will be located on the south side of the courthouse. Youth activities are planned throughout the day on the courthouse lawn. The parade is scheduled at 5 p.m.
The Gallatin Theatre League will present 5 performances of “Live from the Square … it’s Saturday Nite Live,” three on Saturday and two on Sunday.
In addition to the Chautauqua Junior Rodeo on Sunday, the annual flea market will be held on the Gallatin square. Other activities on Sunday include the Fire Department Pancake Breakfast, quilt show, and tours of the rotary jail.
