Winston R-6 School Board Administration set the tax levy for the 2001-2002 school year at $4.1522 following the tax rate hearing held Thursday, Aug. 16. Superintendent Wendell Burns presented information pertaining to state finance projections which reveal a reduction of three percent of state funds. Those reductions are in the categories of transportation; gifted; parents as teachers; and remedial reading.

The board approved the budget for the school year and after a review, voted to accept the final fund balances.

David Neth was appointed to fill the one-year term on the board.

Winston Pit Stop was awarded the bid on diesel fuel.

The MSBA policies pertaining to technology and Internet use were adopted.

Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby reported an enrollment in K-6 of 97 students and an enrollment in pre-school of 12.

High School Principal David Michael reported an addition of eight new high school students with four students transferring out of the school district, for an increased enrollment of four students.

The board adopted a policy pertaining to conflict of interest and financial disclosure.

The calendar of events was reviewed.

A technology plan was adopted for the school year

The board discussed the drainage problem around the new building. The issue was tabled until the next meeting.
