Two Daviess County men were killed and three other people were injured in a two vehicle accident Wednesday evening, two miles south of Altamont.
Phillip Archer, 42, of Gallatin, and Johnnie Campbell, 48, of Cameron were fatally injured in the accident on Route J around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 15, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred as the 1987 Nissan driven by Mr. Archer was traveling westbound on Titan Road and failed to yield, driving into the path of another car which was traveling south. Mr. Archer’s car was struck in the passenger side. Both vehicles traveled into the ditch on the west side of Rt. J. The vehicle driven by Mr. Archer separated into two pieces, ejecting both driver and passenger.
The driver of the southbound 1988 Oldsmobile, David Smith, 23, of Jamesport, and a passenger, Misty Knox, 15, of Jamesport, were taken by Daviess County Ambulance to Cameron Community Hospital, both with moderate injuries. Another passenger, Kristopher Simpson, 20, Macon, was taken by Lifenet to Heartland Regional Medical Center with serious injuries. Misty Knox was wearing a seat belt.
The accident was investigated by Cpl. R.A. Sherman, assisted by Tpr. C.B. Root, Tpr. C.M. Cox, the Daviess County Sheriff’s Department, the Daviess County Ambulance and KAW Fire Department.
