Brook Carder and Mariah Gibson attended the second annual Missouri FFA Public Speaking Academy. The event was held on the Central Missouri State University Campus June 12-14. Deanna Alleger was the conference manager. There were 40 FFA students attending the three-day academy. Also helping were state officers Brad Detring of Farmington and Hannah Scharff of Norborne. The purpose of the academy is to improve communication skills by using language effectively to express ideas, analyze audiences, conduct research using reputable web sites, improve proficiency in both informative and persuasive speaking, and to understand the effects of public speaking personally and professionally. Mariah was a first year participant in the academy. She placed fourth in the beginning public speaking category. This was Brook’s second year.
