Roger A. Woody has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal by the Secretary of Defense. The award is normally reserved for senior military officers who perform exceptionally with the Office of the Secretary of Defense or The Joint Chiefs of Staff. Roger Woody is a 1981 graduate of Gallatin R-5 High School. He is the son of Burr and Hazel Woody, and the grandson of Doc Woody of Gallatin.
During a career that has spanned more than 20 years of service, Chief Master Sergeant Woody becomes the first enlisted member to ever receive such a distinguished award.
“In each assignment and endeavor his performance has been exemplary and selfless,” according to an article by the American Forces Press Service. “His entire career has been a collection of distinguished and superior performances that have distinguished him as a truly exceptional member of the United States Air Force.”
For the past five years, Chief Master Sergeant Woody has served in a key position as the Senior Air Force Representative for the Office of the Secretary (OSD), Joint Requirements and Integration Office, at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.
While serving on the OSD staff, Chief Master Sergeant Woody represented the Air Force’s Active, Reserve and Guard components in a complex, politically sensitive and challenging joint personnel and pay system development environment.
