J.W. and Marilyn Gann of Gallatin attended the annual meeting of the Gann Historical Society and Library in Lufkin, Texas, June 22-23, with scores of Gann family members around the nation in attendance. States represented by the attendees included Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Alabama, Louisiana, North Carolina, Washington, California, Tennessee, Georgia, New Mexico, Colorado and Arkansas.
The society, one of the largest family organizations in America, held an extensive conference on family history. In addition to presentations on the ancestral Ganns who migrated to Texas in the 1830’s, topics included how to build a genealogical library in your own hometown; Wall Street tycoon, W.D. Gann; and historical information about early East Texas.
Lufkin Mayor Louis Bronaugh proclaimed Saturday, June 23, 2001, as Gann Heritage Day.
