@center = Bethany Fairgrounds Speedway
The Bethany Speedway is now closed and will not reopen until the annual Northwest Missouri Fair races which are held Sept. 2-3. The announcement was made at Saturday’s races.
Larry Kaster, who has been promoting races for 20 years, said that the speedway “just didn’t get enough paying spectators and participating drivers to make it work.” Kaster said that he had absorbed some heavy financial losses in attempting to promote the races at Bethany, and he felt he could no longer continue to do it without jeopardizing his family.
Kaster said that, under the circumstances, he does not plan to promote the fair races. Kaster had been the promoter for I-35 Speedway at Winston for the past five years. When the track sold, however, a different promoter was selected, and Bethany officials then offered him the chance to start a weekly program at the Bethany Fairgrounds.
“It is a tough situation, and I hate that we weren’t able to stay with it,” said Kaster.
