Michelle Anthuis and Lora Smith, Senior Girl Scout Troop 147, Gallatin, have completed the requirements for the Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest award a girl can earn in Girl Scouting.

To complete the requirements for the Gold Award, a girl must develop her skills in at least four areas, explore career possibilities, demonstrate leadership, show commitment to self-improvement, and complete a service project that requires her efforts for at least 50 hours.

For their Gold Award service project, Michelle and Lora both chose to tutor elementary school students during the 2000-2001 school year. The students they tutored, their parents, and their teachers all reported an improvement in the student’s grades and in their self-confidence.
