Clean up days at Winston are scheduled for June 16 & 17, according to the Winston Fund Raising Committee headed by Doris Gean Bassett. Lunch will be served starting at 11 a.m., supper will be served starting at 5 p.m. and musical entertainment will begin at 7 p.m. on the 16th. Tickets will be sold for a drawing for $50 of gas from the Pit Stop which will be given away the night of the 16th.
Winston is presently working on the park to get ready for Jesse James Days, which is July 12-15, and is presently also working on the streets, getting those ready to blacktop.
Two separate accounts have been set up, according to the committee. One account is for city improvements and the other is for black topping the streets. If donations are specified for the streets they will go into that account. Other funds go toward city improvements and the park.
A previous fund rasing bake sale netted the town $302.37 for city improvements and $192.00 for black topping the streets.
The committee has several fund raising projects planned for future months, including bake sales, auctions and other drawing for gas at the Pit Stop.
After each fund raiser Mrs. Bassett will post a statement of how much money was made and which project the money is to go toward. The notices will be placed at the city hall, the Pit Stop, the post office and the school house.
The fund-raising committee would appreciate donations of food and also for an auction that is being planned. Items for food donations include hamburgers, hot dogs, ham and cheese sandwiches, barbecue sauce, buns, bread, ketchup, mustard, sliced pickles, onions, pies, cakes, pop of all kinds, tea, lemonade, coffee, cups for drinks, ham and beans, cornbread, tacos, pizza, taco sauce, tomatoes, lettuce, cheese.
Money donation to buy food would also be appreciated. The committee would also appreciate donations of smaller items in good condition for the auction.
All check donations for the black top fund should be sent to Doris Gean Bassett, PO Box 235, Winston, 64689. Telephone 660-749-5650.
