The Winston R-6 Board of Education reviewed support staff job performances and offered employment to all support staff members for the 2001-2002 school year during its regular meeting held May 17.
The resignation of preschool teacher Vicki Phillips was accepted by the board. Contracts were offered to Kim Novinger as preschool teacher for the next school year. Cindy Ball was employed as part-time cook. Matt Goerne and Marty Goerne were hired for summer maintenance help.
The board accepted a bid from C&K dozing to replace sewer lines at the northeast corner of the school property.
A request from a newly formed Pony League team to use the school’s softball field for their games was granted.
The Individual Disability Education Act (IDEA) insurance statements for the next school year were adopted.
The board received an update on summer school from Superintendent David Michael. To date 76 students are enrolled with classes scheduled from June 4-15.
The board voted to continue medical insurance with Forrest T. Jones.
The school calendar was amended to take advantage of legislative action forgiving severe weather make-up dates. The last day of school is Friday, May 25.
Present at the May 17 meeting were Roger Barker, Julie Clark, Gary Caldwell, Melvin Lee, Wayne Uthe and Chreta Maston. Bob Clark was absent. Also present were Elementary Principal Lisa Bielby, High School Principal Wendell Burns and Superintendent David Michael.
The next regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education is scheduled for 7 p.m. on June 19 in the school cafeteria.
