Gallatin’s Senior League girls, coached by Roy Allen, blasted through their season opener with an 11-2 win over Maysville. A combined pitching effort by Roxi Davitt and Nicole Woodward allowed a total of only 3 hits. Woodward started the game, with Amanda Bohannon behind the plate, and struck out 5 batters while allowing 2 runs.

Laura McCann led off a 5-run 3rd inning for Gallatin with a single. Woodward and Kim Clevenger loaded the bases for Amanda Boehm, who hit a bases-clearing triple. She also stole home. A sacrifice fly by Kayli Burrell also scored Jessica Cecil after a walk and stolen bases moved her to 3rd. Gallatin added 2 more runs in the 5th inning before leaving Bohannon stranded on 3rd in the 6th.

Gallatin answered Maysville’s 2-run 4th inning with runs by Woodward, McCann and JoAnn Tummons after a triple by Clevenger.

Davitt struck out 6 of 12 batters she faced in the late innings, including whiffs of 3 of the last 4 Maysville batters.

Gallatin travels to Princeton on Monday for an 8 p.m. start. A scheduled game for Thursday has been postponed due to players participating in the state track meet this weekend.
