The 78th Altamont Alumni Banquet was held May 12 at the Altamont City Hall. Our meal was catered by Sue’s Corner Café in Gallatin. Betty Huffman gave the invocation. The memorial was given by Francie Toney. Sailboats were anchored in memory of Marjorie Burris, Ray Barker, Fern McClintic, Vuna Frazier and teacher Ina Naylor were remembered.

Mike Eldringhoff played piano and sang “Haven of Rest” for the closing of the memorial. Mike was also our guest entertainer singing gospel music. L.L. Cook added to the program with quips and quotes form the late Lu Crowder who was a correspondent for the Altamont Times for many years.

Opal Bills Kennedy, Class of 1941, framed her “A” sweater letter and presented it. It is now with the trophies and hanging on the wall.

Attendance has been down for several years since so many of alumni have passed on, but the enthusiasm of our president, Linda Brown Hughs, who has served many years, keeps our spirits high and is able to keep the organization going.

Attending this years were Florence Savage; Edna Wilson; Kay Turner; Jean Gibson; Maxine Fulk; Connie and Susie Walton; Marvel Beck; Bonnie Estes; Betty McKown; Jerry McLaughlin; Samuel and Deloris Read; Mr. and Mrs. Olin Merritt; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Everman; Ethel Caldwell; Bill and Chretta Mastin;

Door prizes were won by Edna Wilson, Francie Toney and Kay Turner. The prizes were arranged by Jewell Pendleton.
