Monday turned out to be “repeat” day for Gallatin Bulldog golfers at the Grand River Conference meet held at Albany. The Bulldogs won a 2-team battle with South Harrison to take their 4th straight title and for the 3rd year in a row picked up the individual medalist award.

Gallatin’s 322 team score edged South Harrison’s 326 and produced the same 1-2 finish of last season’s league tournament. Maysville finished a distant 3rd with a total of 352.

The Bulldogs took 4 of 10 top spots in the battle for the top individual honor. Junior Brice Garnett carded a 76 to finish all alone atop the leader board after 18 holes. Garnett was also the GRC champion in 2000. Gallatin’s Jon Culver took the same honor in 1999.

South Harrison’s Cole Leazenby finished a stroke behind Garnett and Aaron Geiser of Maysville trailed in 3rd place with a 78. Gallatin’s Joey Evans took 4th with a 79 ahead of Albany’s Jeff Adkins, who also shot a 79. Rounding out the top 10 were Worth County’s Tony Ruckman (80), South Harrison’s Michael Bennett (80), South Harrison’s Tyler Perkins (82), Gallatin’s Duke Burge (83) and Gallatin’s Jake Humphrey (84). Ryan Thompson shot an 87 for the Bulldogs.

Gallatin beat Plattsburg in head-to-head competition on Tuesday, 157 to 193, on the Tiger home course. Evans shot the low score, a 37. Garnett, 38; Ryan Thompson, 40; and Humphrey, 42; all beat Plattsburg’s best golfer. Burge also carded a 48 for Gallatin. The Bulldog jayvee squad turned in the following scores: Pat Dickinson 50, Will Jarboe 52, Scott Wilkinson 53, Zach Strange 54 and Luke Leeper 57.

The Bulldogs also won a tri-meet featuring the top 3 GRC teams at Daviess County Country Club last Thursday. Gallatin totaled 148 to eclipse South Harrison with 159 and Maysville with 165. Garnett led the way with a 34 followed by Evans (37), Humphrey (39) and Thompson (39).

Bulldog golfers travel to Lawson on Friday for the defense of their district title. Also competing in Gallatin’s district will be Barstow, Concordia, Maysville, Osborn, Pattonsburg, Hamilton, St. Mary’s of Independence, Sweet Springs and Wentworth Military Academy.
