Gallatin varsity golfers held their own last Friday in the Cameron Tournament, a meet that featured 2A and 3A golf teams from around the area. The Bulldogs shot a team score of 310 and finished 4th, 9 strokes off the winning pace set by Maryville.
Maryville’s 301 edged out Chillicothe and Platte County, who each totaled 302. Gallatin finished well ahead of Savannah’s 5th place total of 317. Rounding out team scores were: Cameron (325), Excelsior Springs (325), Richmond (340), St. Joe Benton (348), Lawson (356) and St. Joe Lafayette (358).
Gallatin’s Brice Garnett rallied from a 37 on the front 9 holes to shoot a 33 on the back side and finished runnerup in the medalist race with a 70. Platte County’s Jeremy Glasbrenner shot rounds of 32 and 34 to finish in 1st place. Gallatin’s Jake Humphrey shot a 78 to finish in a tie for 13th place. Joey Evans followed with a 79. Ryan Thompson and Duke Burge added 83 and 90, respectively, for Gallatin.
The Bulldogs came out on top Monday in a quad featuring 4 Grand River Conference teams held in Albany. Gallatin golfers combined for 157 to easily walk away from Albany and Worth County, who each shot 173. Stanberry brought up the rear in the meet.
Evans took the medalist honor with a 37. Garnett, Humphrey and Thompson each shot 40. Burge carded a 45 for the Bulldogs.
Gallatin junior varsity golfers Patrick Dickinson, Luke Leeper, Zach Strange, Mitch Riley and Brady Feigly also earned a victory for the Bulldogs with a 202 team score.
Gallatin defeated Trenton and LaPlata in a tri-meet held last Thursday at Riverside Country Club in Trenton. The Bulldogs combined for 155. Trenton shot a 160 and LaPlata trailed both with a 231 team score. Garnett finished on the heels of Trenton’s Joel Peace in the medalist hunt. Peace shot even par 34 and Garnett finished a stroke off at 35. Other GHS scores included: Evans 38, Thompson 40, Burge 42 and Humphrey 43.
The Bulldogs were at Hamilton Tuesday and come home Thursday against Maysville and South Harrison. They travel to Albany Monday for the Grand River Conference Tournament. The conference junior varsity tournament will be held at Daviess County Country Club next Wednesday.
