Laura McCann has been nominated to be among 330 students to attend the Missouri Scholars Academy June 10-30
Sophomore Laura McCann has been nominated by Gallatin High School to be among 330 students to attend the seventeenth annual Missouri Scholars Academy June 10-30 at the University of Missouri-Columbia. She is the daughter of Dan and Rhonda McCann.
The Missouri Scholars Academy was established to provide educational experiences and enrichment opportunities which may differ significantly from those provided in the more traditional high school programs.
All public and private high schools across the state are eligible to nominate at least one student for the academy, with larger schools able to nominate more based on their enrollment.
The selection process is highly competitive. Participants in the Scholars Academy are chosen on the basis of school recommendations, test scores, grades and personal essays. There is no cost for the students, who live on campus for the entire three weeks and get an advance taste of college residential life.
No grades or credit are given at the academy. Students take part in a wide range of social and extracurricular programs (concerts, lectures, special-interest workshops, etc.) that complement the fast-paced academic program.
