Jayce Tingler has been named as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Baseball Co-Players of the Week.
University of Missouri sophomore outfielder Jayce Tingler, a 1999 of Smithville High School, has been named, along with Baylor third baseman Matt Williams, as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference
Baseball Co-Players of the Week for games played March 19-25. Voting was conducted by a select panel of media covering Big 12 baseball.
Tingler posted a .588 batting average (10-for-17), seven runs batted in, and an on-base percentage of .688 as he notched a trio of 3-hit games. Two of his 3-hit games came at No. 4 Nebraska, where
the Tigers won twice in 3 games league-leading and previously unbeaten Huskers. Tingler stole 5 bases in 6 attempts and walked 5 times while driving in the decisive run in Mizzou’s 3-2 win over
the Huskers on March 25. He led the Tigers in hits, stolen bases and RBI during the 5-game stretch.
As a result of the Tigers’ recent success over ranked teams, Mizzou received 14 votes in this week’s Baseball Weekly/ESPN Coaches Poll. The votes put the 19-11-1 Tigers in 33rd place nationally, tied
with Texas Tech and UCLA. Missouri is also ranked 34th in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll.
Tingler, who is batting .304 for the season and .359 in his last 20 games, laid down a bunt single that scored the winning run in last Friday’s 5-4 Tiger victory over Texas Tech. The MU sophomore leads
the Tigers in stolen bases (11) and is 2nd on the team in RBI (27) and runs scored (26). He ranks 7th in the Big 12 in steals and 4th in walks. Tingler currently leads the Tigers with a 10-game hitting
streak.
Jayce is the son of Steve and Diana Tingler of Smithville, and grandson of Betty Tingler of Jameson and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Burrell of Kingston.
