The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education received word during their regular meeting held March 19 that the baffles for the school gym had been delivered. The baffles were put up Tuesday of this week.
Three R-2 board members, Tom Lambert, Donald Burns and Gregg Brown, installed the sound absorbent mats, each measuring 3 ½ by 8 feet and one inch thick.
“They’re white,” said R-2 Superintendent Ron DeShon. “So they’re not that noticeable. They shouldn’t take away from the dome.”
Using a lift, it took the workers around 30 minutes to install each of the 12 baffles on the approximately 38 foot high dome.
In other business at the March 19 meeting, Mr. DeShon gave the financial report. He stated that in the future financial reports would be submitted to the board signed by both Latrenda Snyder and himself.
The board approved the Feb. 20 transfer of $46,872.50 from the Guaranty Bank & Trust (Fund III) to the Bank of New York for the March lease payment.
They also approved the March 7 transfer of $125,000 from the MOSIP Money Market Account to the Guaranty Bank & Trust (Fund 1); and the March 20 transfer of $25,000 from the MOSIP Money Market Account to Guaranty Bank & Trust to cover March bills.
The board agreed to close out the Four County Special Education COOP Account with a check for the amount of $175 made payable to Latrenda Snyder.
Bills were approved as presented.
The school will purchase a new garbage disposal since the one in the kitchen is not working properly.
Allen Wenzl was present to report on the school’s heating and cooling system and to answer questions from the board.
A building committee was formed, including Greg Brown, chairman, Tommie Lowery, Mr. Wright and Mr. DeShon.
A finance committee was formed, including Ron Cornett, chairman, Donald Burns, Judy Brown, Mr. DeShon and Lisa Parker, CTA president.
The salary schedule for certified staff was reviewed. The board approved the salary schedule, a base salary of $22,500 and a ten-year experience cap on new employees.
The extra duty formula was approved as presented.
Chris Gannon gave a report on grant presentation. She was appointed as the authorized representative for the federal and state grant programs.
A series of individual meetings will be held in April regarding the CSIP Timeline. A completed draft will be presented to the board in May.
The ASBR 99-00 was approved.
After recommendation from an auditor from the State Finance Department, the district agreed to retain the present auditors of Lockridge, Constant & Conrad for another year.
Mrs. Brown gave the elementary principal’s report. Aleah Sperry, sixth grade, took first place in the Spelling Bee. Other contestants were Krystal Peek, Charity Lewis and Drayson Leeper, eighth grade; Kelly Cornett, Katelyn Hulet and Nicole Slobodnik, seventh grade; and Tracy deJong and Cassie Brown, sixth grade.
The Pattonsburg fifth and sixth grade tournament was held in March. Pattonsburg girls placed third. Coffey and Gallatin fifth and sixth grade tournaments are upcoming.
Lois Swope celebrate her 30th year of teaching on March 9. A cake and punch reception was held for her.
Mr. Wright gave the high school principal’s report. High school students participated in a Science Olympiad in March at Trenton. They also participated in the Math Olympiad at Maryville. The junior high Academic Team finished fourth in the conference tournament.
Parent/teacher conferences were held March 15 with attendance down.
The State FCCLA meeting was in March. Chase Cornett is a candidate for Missouri’s nomination for national president.
Bill, Chris and Lisa attended a MAP meeting in St. Joseph in March. Tentative dates for future meetings are set for April 24-26.
The High School play is scheduled for April 7.
Brennan Leeper was selected to attend Boy’s State this summer and Robert Woodring was selected as alternate. The Pattonsburg District was awarded a scholarship and Robert is allowed to attend also since Pattonsburg hasn’t sent anyone in the past several years.
Carlena Leeper reported that the fifth and sixth grade tournament made around $4,000 this year.
The Booster Club would like to use a bus for Project Prom. The board agreed to this.
A mini grant was awarded to Pattonsburg in the amount of $200 to be used for supplies.
Board of Education members present at the Pattonsburg R-2 regular school board meeting held March 19 were Brown, Burns, Cornett, Lambert and Lowery. Bozarth was absent.
