Gallatin Board of Aldermen were looking forward to summer at their regular meeting held March 26. After reviewing six bids, the board approved a bid from Michael Walker for the mowing of various city properties in the amount of $240 per mowing (with one bid area deleted). Eight bids were considered before a bid from Jerry Woods was accepted for the mowing of city cemeteries in the amount of $375 per mowing.
The city agreed to purchase a used, 1990 Case International former state mowing tractor with sickle bar from Alan Petty, Liberty, for $7,500 with a trade-in of $2,500 for the city’s 1973 John Deere tractor, making the overall purchase price $5,000.
Spring clean-up days were announced: Tuesday, April 17 – east side; Thursday, April 19 -west side. Collection will be performed by Superior Services.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Chief of Police Jim Wycoff provided an update on nuisance properties, vehicle maintenance requirements, and leash law enforcement. Proactive patrols on trash collection days will continue.
The submission of a grant application to the Missouri Department of Natural Resources seeking outdoor recreation assistance through the Landmark Local Parks Programs and authorizing the mayor and city clerk to sign and submit same for funding consideration was approved after first and second readings.
An ordinance concerning the acceptance and compliance with various requirements to obtain financial assistance form the United States of America, acting through the United States Department of Agriculture, Rural Development was approved after first and second readings.
A resolution supporting a grant application to the Missouri Department of Transportation for transportation enhancement project funds was approved.
City Administrator Jason Helton gave the board an update on the status of purchasing natural gas contracts for the upcoming year with the new broker and account manager.
A letter of inquiry was presented from the City of Jamesport investigating various options for water supply. The board indicated that, due to the likelihood of Jamesport connecting to another, more cost-effective source, to not pursue an engineering feasibility study for the city’s water plant and system at this time.
During comments by aldermen, Bob Snidow reported that a city resident expressed their appreciation for the police patrol of the school zone.
Mr. Snidow requested a monthly summary of employee overtime hours.
Shonna Morrison reported that she had attended the local Emergency Planning Commission meeting.
Mayor Davis led a discussion of the year to date revenues and expenditures. He also discussed the status of the natural gas markets, city gas purchasing, and customer rate schedules.
Bills in the amount of $140,350.73 were approved for payment.
The above are the unapproved minutes for the City of Gallatin held on March 26 at city hall. Present were Mayor L.B. Davis, aldermen Bob Snidow, Norma Griffin, Shonna Morrison and City Administrator Jason Helton. Absent was alderman Cecil Akin.
