The Annual Daviess County Soil and Water Conservation Meeting was held at the Tri-County R-7 elementary school on March 19, with a large crowd attending.

Special awards were presented and the students from the county were recognized for their achievements in the conservation poster contests.

The Conservation Farmer Award was presented to Ron and Christine Ward of Gilman City. The presentation was made by Jim Clark. Mr. and Mrs. Ward operate 1140 acres in Daviess and Harrison Counties. The Wards have a diversified farming operation with livestock and grain. The Wards are interested in conserving and preserving the natural resources. They accomplish this by building terraces and installing buffer strips.

Mr. and Mrs. Ward have farmed for 31 years, and their sons Greg and Jeff farm with them.

Poster Contest awards were presented to several students from each school in the county, and four of the posters were selected to be sent to the state where they will be competing with other students around the state.

Selected as the top poster winners were Bill Kerns, third grade and Amy Anthuis, sixth grade, of Gallatin; Bailey Huston, fourth grade of Tri-County School and Devin deJong, a fifth grader at Winston.

Other students from Gallatin with posters were, Becky Milholland, and Jamie Brinnen, third graders; Tye Humphrey, Kelsey McLaughlin, Wren Tolen, fourth graders; Katy Black and Janel Holcomb, fifth grade.

North Daviess — Sarah Morris, third grade; Tyler Cox, fourth grade, Hannah Huffman, fifth grade, and Meghan Roberts, sixth grade.
