The Gallatin FFA Chapter has been very busy the past few weeks as our contest season has begun. March 3, the Gallatin Chapter cooperated with Hamilton and five other FFA groups to host their annual contest day. The Gallatin Chapter hosted a dairy cattle judging contest.
The Macy families once again worked with the students to provide the cattle. Doug Alden, Keith Gay, Bob Bird and Chuck Weldon also helped work with the cattle and took oral reasons.
This year 26 teams took part in the judging. Teams took a test to judge two classes of cows, two classes of heifer and gave one set of oral reasons. Lathrop placed first in the contest. The Gallatin team placed second.
Members of the judging team are Will Jarboe, Amanda Bohannon, Dana Dutro, Brook Carder and Justin Baker. Will Jarboe was the high individual in the contest and Dana Dutro placed sixth.
In other contests the Gallatin Forestry Team placed first. Brady Feigly was the high individual. B.J. Jones was fifth and John Craig was sixth. The Livestock Team placed third. Austin Story was the ninth individual.
Gallatin also had an eighth place entomology team, a 12th place agronomy team, a ninth place soils team and a 10th place home judging team. All of their work is in preparation for the district agriculture contest on April 3 in Maryville.
