Funeral services for Eldon Filley, a native of Altamont, were held Saturday at Rupp Funeral Home, St. Joseph. Burial was at Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph.

Eldon “Red’’ Filley, 85, St. Joseph, died Wednesday, March 7, 2001, at a St. Joseph health-care center.

Mr. Filley was born in Altamont. He spent most of his life in St. Joseph.

Mr. Filley was a supervisor in the construction industry until retiring. He also operated the Filley Fruit Markets in St. Joseph for many years.

He was of the Baptist faith.

On Feb. 2, 1936, he married Ida G. Gill in St. Joseph. She survives of the home.

Mr. Filley was preceded in death by four brothers, Hal, Bud, Pete and Jack; and two sisters, Coral Jaroski and Peggy Robinson.

Other survivors include two sons, Steve, Stewartsville, and Thomas E., St. Joseph; two daughters, Connie Filley and Lisa Sollars, both of St. Joseph; a sister, Erma Bennett, St. Joseph; 14 grandchildren; and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
