Pattonsburg board agrees to repay nearly $80,000 to the state
The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education voted to pay back a penalty in the amount of $79,769.99 to the state over a three year period beginning July 1, 2001.
The decision was made during the regular session of the R-2 Board of Education after Superintendent Ron DeShon called the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) finances director during the meeting. The state granted the district a wavier not to exceed five years to pay back the penalty.
The state requested a letter signed by the board be sent with the boards plan to pay back the penalty. The only stipulation to the agreement was that the district must stay in compliance.
In other business at Wednesday’s meeting, Mr. DeShon reported that the building architect was interested in meeting with the board to discuss options and a possible plan to remedy building problems. The board directed Mr. DeShon to set up a meeting.
The financial report and bills were approved.
Mr. DeShon reported that the George K. Peugh Agriculture Center sign was near completion and should be up as soon as weather permits.
Mr. DeShon passed out a draft for 2001-2002 salary schedule to be reviewed at the next meeting.
The auditor search has begun for 2000-2001 fiscal year and names will be brought to the board for approval at the March meeting.
Mr. DeShon announced that the 2000-2001 school calendar would be extended as bad weather dictates. The spring break has been shortened as the district will attend school on Good Friday until 12:30 and will only have the Monday after Easter off for spring break. Currently school will be in session Monday, May 21 and Tuesday, May 22, to make up for the last two days of bad weather.
After discussion, the board voted to hold the school’s graduation for 2002 a week earlier on Sunday, May 12.
The HVAC system was discussed and decided that the district will negotiate a maintenance contract with Al Wentzel heating and air conditioning.
Mrs. Brown reported that the sorority which includes Diane Hulet, Cyndi Hulet, Shelley Keeter, Sandy Booth, Kristi Hulet, Amber Hulet, Latrenda Snider, Sherrilyn Clawson, Alison Sperry, Rebecca Nalle and Shelly Cameron has donated the needed money to go with the Cub food drive to purchase a slide at the elementary. The board moved to purchase the slide and agreed to recognize the Sorority and its members with a proclamation of appreciation and a ceremony upon completion of the project.
Mrs. Brown reported the upcoming dates for Dare Graduation, the spelling bee and upcoming fifth and sixth grade basketball.
Mr. Wright announced that Chase Cornet has been elected to run for the National FCCLA President from Missouri. Mr. Wright also recognized Jackie Hartley for receiving the Daughter of American Revolution award for an essay she wrote.
The HDC tournament will finish this Saturday.
Mr. Wright announced that due to weather and cancellation of school the third quarter would be moved back two days ending March 9 and Parent/Teacher conference would be held March 15 from 1-6 p.m. School will dismiss that day at 12:30 p.m.
The board went into executive session at 5:07 p.m. and returned to regular session at 7:10 p.m.
Mark Wright was offered a contract as High School Principal for the 2001-2002 school year.
Judy Brown was retained as Elementary Principal for the 2001-2002 school year.
