While Mercer teams continue to hold down state rankings and top

spots in HDC standings, other area HDC teams have been active after

the holiday break.

Pattonsburg’s girls are riding a 2-game winning streak after losing

a pair of close contests last week in South Harrison’s round robin

tournament. The Lady Panthers beat Gilman City, 43-29, Monday night

to up their HDC record to 3-1. Tuesday night the PHS girls downed

Southwest of Ludlow, 39-25, to even their season mark at 5-5.

Nena Woodward, who currently leads the HDC in scoring with a 16.8

average, gunned in 22 points against Gilman City and 20 more

against Southwest. Gilman City, 1-6 overall and 0-1 in the league,

was led by Amy Gibson’s 8 points.

Pattonsburg’s boys, 2-2 in the HDC and 4-6 overall, split this week

with a 46-37 conference victory over Gilman City and a 49-45 loss,

despite a 30-21 second half rally, to Southwest on Tuesday. Brandon

Anderson led the Panthers with 10 points against Southwest. Tyler

Mason notched 16 points and 12 rebounds and Brian Williamson added

13 points and 11 rebounds against Gilman City. The Hawks, 1-6 and

0-1, received 16 points from Jacob Wilson and 9 from Levi Allen.

Tri-County’s boys are 2-0 after the holiday break after beating

Hale and North Harrison. The Mustangs, 7-2 overall and 2-1 in the

HDC, defeated Hale, 68-35, last Friday, and knocked off North

Harrison, 63-51, on Monday.

Clay Fewins scored 15 points and Daniel Shuler added 14 for the

Mustangs against North Harrison. Shuler notched 16 points and 10

rebounds against Hale. Fewins added 15 points.

The North Daviess girls moved to 5-2 overall on Monday with a 59-28

victory over K.C. Lutheran in the Osborn Tournament. Lindsay Hunter

and Darcie Iddings each popped in 17 points for the Lady Knights

while Mandy Williams added 11. North Daviess beat Winston, 36-26,

last week to move to 3-1 in the HDC. Iddings led the Lady Knights

with 12 points. Stephanie Caldwell topped Winston with 9 points.

Winston’s boys beat North Daviess, 43-27, in the nightcap behind 10

point scoring from Nathan Uthe and Derek Vaughn. Jimmy Hunt also

had 10 points for the Knights.
