Seventeen high school students join 37 others as part of the Upward Bound program at North Central Missouri College. Upward Bound Director Kendra Wolgast said a limited number of students were admitted to the program recently based on eligibility requirements set by the Department of Education, their application, recommendations, personal interview and attendance at a seminar.
Upward Bound is designed for high school students to generate skills and motivation that are necessary for success in post-secondary education.
NCMC’s UB program is in its second year of a four-year renewable grant, so that there is no cost to participating students. Last year’s students visited six colleges, received 297 hours of tutoring,
performed 164 hours of community service and took several cultural and reward trips. Anyone interested in more information on Upward Bound can visit the college’s website (www.ncmc.cc.mo.us) or contact the UB Office, 660-359-3948, ext. 331 or 332.
