Rep. Randall Relford, D-Cameron, will run for the vacant Missouri Senate seat in the 12th district.

The 12th District Democratic Campaign Committee selected Relford on Saturday, Dec. 2 as the Democratic candidate. He officially filed on Dec. 4 for the office that will be filled after the special election. The election will be held on Jan. 24.

“Four years of service in the Missouri House have given me experience I think can be of great benefit to the people of this senatorial district,” said Rep. Relford. “It is a great honor to be selected as the Democratic nominee for this seat. I look forward to the opportunity to prove to the people of this area why I should be their next senator.”

Rep. Relford has served in the Missouri House of Representatives since 1996. During that time he has served as chairman of the House Correctional and State Institutions Committee.

Prior to his service in the legislature, Rep. Relford spent 30 years working in the education field. He served as both an elementary and middle school principal and received an Outstanding Education Award from the Cameron Chamber of Commerce.
