Along with 3,200 other advisers and members, Gallatin FCCLA chapter adviser, Kathy Robertson, accompanied 13 from the Gallatin R-5 chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) to a weekend leadership training conference held Nov. 17-19 in Minneapolis, Minn.
Attendees participated in a weekend of workshops and sessions that challenged members and their advisers to learn more about “Capture the Moment” through FCCLA The “Capture the Moment” theme was reinforced by Friday’s general session, where meeting attendees experienced a three-screen multi-media presentation and geared up for a variety of leadership training opportunities offered throughout the weekend. Among the featured speakers was Jason Dorsey, founder of the World Institute to End School Violence.
Saturday’s workshops involved training in FCCLA’s membership campaign, Member Quest 2001, a program that offers chapter members ideas on how to recruit, recognize and retain members; training in FCCLA’s Dynamic Leadership; and training in FCCLA’s Leaders AT Work, the training will include ways members can develop leadership skills in six FACS career areas.
Members also had the opportunity to attend sessions that focused on community involvement, leadership skills and public relations. Keynote speaker, Bill Cordes, closed out the meeting with an motivational message: “This Is It!” Minneapolis is the fourth location in a series of four nationally sponsored training conferences, called Cluster Meetings, held this fall. Other meetings were held in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Birmingham, Alabama, and Kansas City, Missouri.
Family, Career and Community Leaders of America is unique among youth organizations because its programs are planned and run by members. It is the only in-school organization with the family as its central focus. Participation in national programs and chapter activities helps members become strong leaders in their families, careers and communities.
