One Gallatin teenager was killed and another passenger seriously injured, while the driver escaped with only minor injuries in a one-vehicle accident on South Olive Street. The accident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. on Dec. 7. All three students were reported to have been drinking.

Fortunately, the above story is made up, the crash and rescue effort was only a simulation, and the students were only play acting during the Alcohol Awareness/Drunk Driving Docu-Drama held Thursday outside the school.

Sergeant Mark Richards of the Gallatin Police, Steve Reid, volunteer firemen with Gallatin Fire and Rescue, and County Coroner Wally Greene spoke to the assembly of students regarding the grave consequences of drinking and driving.

The program was presented to the students of Gallatin R-5 High School by the Traffic Safety Alliance of the Ozarks and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
