The Gallatin Board of Aldermen adopted an annual budget for the fiscal year beginning on Jan. 1, 2001, during their regular meeting held Nov. 27, 2000, at city hall. The ordinance was approved after first and second readings and included appropriating funds pursuant thereto.
During new business, the mayor and board reviewed and made changes to the proposed revenues and expenditures for the overall 2001 budget.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, Chief Wycoff provided a report on maintenance needs of department vehicles and also on department activities planned for next year as a result of the citizen surveys.
During comments by the city administrator, Jason Helton updated the board on the status of the franchise agreement with Galaxy Cablevision. A letter of response has been received from the company. Future actions will be considered at the next board meeting.
Midland Engineering will be invited to provide an update on the sewer project to the board at the next meeting.
A report was given on the natural gas market and on city purchasing requirements.
The candidate filing period for the April 3, 2001 municipal election will be Dec. 19, 2000, to Jan. 16, 2001. Seats open in this election include mayor; one east ward alderman; and one west ward alderman.
The city will purchase a few radio ads encouraging people to support Gallatin businesses during the holiday season.
The City will again sponsor the annual residential holiday decoration contest. Winners from last year will be asked to judge this year’s contest.
The city board and employee Christmas dinner will take place the evening of Dec. 14, 2000.
During comments by aldermen, Norma Griffin reported she had received compliments on the holiday decorations around the square and she wished to thank the city employees for their efforts in putting them up.
Bob Snidow discussed city population estimates.
Shonna Morrison inquired about the status of the possible formation of a special road district for the city.
Mayor Davis expressed his appreciation for those who helped arrange and participate in the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. He led a brief discussion on various upcoming city projects.
Bills in the amount of $134,459.17 were approved for payment.
