R-5 students encouraged to apply for 2001-2002 Bundestag Youth Exchange

Competition for the 2001-2002 Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program scholarship is now open to Gallatin R-5 sophomores, juniors and seniors who have maintained a 3.0 GPA. Applications must be postmarked by Dec. 1, 2000.

Six Gallatin students have previously been selected for this program: Heather Richards 1988-89; Alan Barton 1989-90; Liz Willis 1989-90; Ben Booth 1990-91; Matthew Hubbard 1992-93; and Lee Rogers 1994-95.

Through the Congress-Bundestag program, 60 American teenagers will live in Germany with Youth for Understanding host families for the year while attending high school. Students are provided the chance to immerse themselves for a full year in German language, culture and society.

Previous study of the German language is not required since students attend a language course at the beginning of their year abroad.

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange Program is supported and funded by the U.S. Congress and its corresponding body in West Germany. Notification of finalists for the exchange program will be announced later in the school year.
