Superintendent Ron DeShon presented a bill from Cheesebrough & Associates and from the structural engineer, Don Jack, for their inspection of the school in August during the regular meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Oct. 16.
The board instructed Mr. DeShon to write a letter to them stating that the board does not feel obligated to pay this last bill. The board feels this was part of their obligation as they were the engineering firm used in the design and construction of the building.
In other business at the Monday meeting, Dana Hopkins was present to ask the board to fix the hole in her back yard that was made while grading the school property. Tommie Lowery had done the grading and said he would take care of the problem.
Gene Walker was present to discuss the situation that Harold Mooney had brought before the board at the September meeting. Mr. Walker stated that “No other promises were made by the board, other than the switching of the lots, while he was superintendent.”
Mr. Walker also said that the awards pictures in the commons area were never labeled and that he would do that.
Bills were approved as presented.
During new business Mr. DeShon reported that Tom Phillips inspected the heating and cooling system and everything is in working order. Mr. Phillips has some concerns about replacement parts being available, but will address the board at a later date regarding this.
Lisa Parker and Carlena Leeper presented a report on the Teacher Advisory Program and MAP scores training.
A new phone tree system has been installed at the school, which will enable callers to reach the person they are calling easier.
Chris Gannan was present asking for volunteers from the board to serve on the CSIP Committee. Burns and Cornett volunteered.
A motion carried to authorize the superintendent Ron DeShon to research and fully enforce the laws regarding all handicapped parking on school property.
A request was presented from Allison Sperry regarding the purchase of family passes to sporting events at the school. Mr. Wright, Mr. Bowland and Mr. Clawson will research this and report back to the board.
During old business, Mr. DeShon reported that the auditor’s were late and the audit had not been done yet. He stated they were always late and reports were not finished on time. The board discussed replacing the auditors sometimes in the future.
A workday has been scheduled for Nov. 4 to retrieve the rest of the lockers, stage lighting and curtains from the Maryville school.
The surplus auction scheduled for Oct. 21 was discussed.
The non-resident agreement with North Daviess was discussed. Mr. DeShon received a written contract from them. The board tabled any action regarding this contract until the November meeting.
Mr. DeShon reported that the safety deposit box and the night drops are in place.
During the elementary principal’s report, Mrs. Brown reported that red ribbon has now become a symbol for the drug free movement. The elementary will celebrate Red Ribbon Week Oct. 23-27, with red ribbons for everyone to wear and different themes for each day of the week. A door- decorating contest will be held with the winning class getting a popcorn party. The cooks are also planning a red menu for the week.
Elementary parent/teacher conferences have been scheduled for Oct. 25 from 1 to 6 p.m.
The seventh and eight grade students will perform a “power play” for elementary students Oct. 27 in connection with Red Ribbon Week.
During the high school principal’s report, Mr. Wright stated the junior high basketball season has started. The girls are 1-1 and the boys are 1-0. They will play at the junior high tournament at Winston.
Congratulations to the band for receiving second place in the 1A division at the Missouri Western Homecoming Parade Oct. 14. The band marched Oct.21 in the NWMSU Homecoming parade.
The National Honor Society Induction Ceremony was Oct. 23.
High School parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for Oct. 25 from 1 to 6 p.m..
The board entered executive session at 10:10 p.m.
Upon returning to regular session, a motion carried to sell the old Ag building in the same fashion as the old school building.
President Lambert will attend the surplus auction to represent the board.
A motion carried to offer Melissa Defenbaugh a contract for the position of science teacher.
