They face Newtown-Harris in a rematch of last season’s sectional.
The North Daviess Lady Knights, winner of Class 1A, District 13, will defend their sectional title Oct. 11, when they face Newtown-Harris in a rematch of last season’s sectional. The game will be played in Princeton and begins at 6:30 p.m.
The Lady Knights take a 13-4 record into tonight’s contest. North Daviess finished 2nd in the HDC Conference and 2nd in the league tournament. Both losses were to North Harrison. The Lady Knights have lost 2 previous meetings with Newtown-Harris this season, including the first game of the season and a mid-season meeting when North Daviess was without 2 starters.
“We have quite a few seniors,” said North Daviess coach Alan Koch, “and they have been the building blocks for our success at winning. “I feel like we’re pretty solid all the way around. All our girls can put the ball in play,” he added.
Sophomore Mandy Williams is the top pitcher for the Lady Knights and #3 hitter in the lineup. Senior shortstop Courtney Phipps and senior 4-year catcher Lindsey Hunter have been instrumental in the Lady Knights’ success.
Newtown-Harris returns all players from last season’s sectional team. North Daviess only lost 2 players from last season’s quarterfinal club.
The winner of tonight’s sectional will advance to the quarterfinal round Saturday at Danner Park in Chillicothe against the winner of the sectional contest between Worth County, 16-7, and Union Star, 9-11.
