Jack Edward Brown, 84, of Lake Viking near Gallatin, Missouri, passed away on September 25, 2000 at his home.
He was born November 6, 1915, to Willis L. and Dorothea Lewis Brown, near Jameson, Missouri.
He was married to Mona K. Marshall on July 30, 1945 in Gallatin, Missouri.
He was a farmer in the Carlow Community from 1948-1995. He volunteered to serve in the army during World War II, serving in the 34th Infantry, 24th Division. He fought in the battles of New Guinea, Leyte, Luzon, and Southern Philippines. He earned the Purple Heart with Cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal, American Campaign Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, and World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the Frank Frazier Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2172, Gallatin, Missouri.
He was a former Presiding Judge-Daviess County Court, Gallatin, from 1966-1972. He was active in the state, local and national Republican party in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Gallatin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Hubert, Ned, and Ralph; and a sister Faye Webb.
He is survived by his wife, Mona, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Mona Marie and Russell Hervey, of Raytown, Missouri; a step-granddaughter, Marie Innocenti, of St. Louis Park, MN; and two sisters, Helen Barlow and Doris Lynn, both of Gallatin, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Thursday, September 28, 2000, at the United Methodist Church, Gallatin, Missouri with Rev. David Fitzmaurice officiating; Ann Schweizer was the organist and Betty McGahen the vocalist. Pall bearers were Lanny Dixon, Vincent Walton, Don Tolen, Robin Rader, Jerry Hoppenthaler, and Jeff Hoppenthaler. Burial with full military honors were under the direction of the Frank Frazier Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2172 at the Lake Viking Cemetery, Gallatin, Missouri.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the United Methodist Church Building Fund, Senior Citizens Center, Gallatin, Missouri, or the American Cancer Society.
