The Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education reviewed a report from architect Cheesebrough & Associates and the structural engineer Don Jack during their regular meeting held Sept. 18, 2000. According to Superintendent Ron DeShon the engineer and architect presented a three-phase plan regarding structural problems with the school building.

Step One is simply to watch and see if the building starts to settle. If it does, then the damaged areas will be repaired and the cracks filled with caulking. If the building continues to show settling through the upcoming winter and next spring, then Step Two involves sawing out areas of the wall and filling those in with caulking, (something like a joint). If it appears that the foundation itself is shifting, then Step Three, the final option, is to determine what the foundation is doing and take measures to correct it.

“We made bench marks on the walls to see if any separation or wall movement occurs,” said Mr. DeShon. “If it does, then we’ll go on to phase two.”

In other business at the Sept. 18 meeting, Harold Mooney was present to discuss a property line dispute. The board took the situation under consideration.
