The class will begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 29 and end at 10 p.m. It will reconvene at 8 a.m. on Sept. 30 and end at 3 p.m.

To receive certification from this class, students must be at least 11 year of age and attend all 10 hours (both days) of the class. Students must also pass a test at the class completion. Students are responsible for their own pencils and lunch on Saturday.

Pre-registration is required for this class at the Daviess County Sheriff’s Office in the courthouse at Gallatin. Each student is to pick up a student manual at the time they register.

There are six chapters in the manual. Students must read the manual and answer all the questions at the end of each chapter prior to attending the class.

Missouri requires every hunter who hunts with a firearm born after Jan. 1, 1967, to complete a certified hunter education class prior to purchasing a firearm’s hunting permit. Some other states require even older hunters to obtain the certification prior to hunting. It’s best to check with the state fish and game departments where you plan to hunt for specific requirements.

This class is one of the last to be conducted in our area before the hunting seasons open. For a complete listing contact the St. Joseph Department of Conservation office by phone at 816-271-3100.
