Survey results on tillage and crop residue management systems in Daviess and DeKalb counties have been released by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service. The survey was conducted this year to evaluate progress achieved in reaching county or statewide goals.

The information reflected in the survey results shown below help individual soil and water conservation districts establish priorities for educational or other programs. The survey is also intended to provide accurate data on the adoption of conservation tillage systems by crop for the biannual National Crop Residue Management Survey. Some of the results are as follows:

Total Percentage of All Crops

Daviess — 36.3% no-till, 41.8% mulch-till, 21.9% conventional-till; DeKalb — 55.9% no-till, 32.8% mulch-till, 10.8% conventional-till

Percentage by Crop in Daviess Co.

Soybeans — 40.6% no-till, 37.3% mulch-till, 22.1% conventional-till; Corn — 26.8% no-till, 53.6% mulch-till, 19.6% conventional-till; Wheat — 60% mulch-till, 40% conventional-till

Percentage by Crop in DeKalb Co.

Soybeans — 73% no-till, 19% mulch-till, 8% conventional-till; Corn — 38% no-till, 48% mulch-till, 14% conventional-till; Wheat — 100% mulch-till, Milo — 100% conventional-till
