The City of Gallatin has issued a precautionary boil order while repairs to a water main and hydrant are performed at the intersection of Olive and Van Buren Streets.
Residents in the area between Olive Street and West Grand, including that portion of West Grand, and West Van Buren Street to the Gallatin Lumber Company (Daviess Street), and residents along Westwood Street will be without water service from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 30 so that repairs can be made.
Once water service is restored, residents in the affected area are advised to observe the following precautions:
1) Boil water vigorously for 3 minutes prior to use. Use only boiled water for drinking, brushing teeth, diluting fruit juices and all other food preparations or consumption.
2) Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker. Remake ice cubes with water that has been boiled.
3) Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
4) Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing or using backyard pools so water is not ingested. Persons with cuts or severe rashes may wish to consult their physicians.
Water samples will be taken and tested to ensure users’ safety. Once the samples are determined to be safe, the boil order will be lifted and residents will be notified through media.
