Willard Spyhalski, 57, and his wife, Sharlene, 55, of Jameson were pronounced dead at the scene by Daviess County Coroner Wallace Greene.
A Jameson couple was killed and three others injured in a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening on Highway 6 in Altamont.
Willard Spyhalski, 57, and his wife, Sharlene, 55, of Jameson were pronounced dead at the scene by Daviess County Coroner Wallace Greene. The Spyhalskis were known locally as Ezekiel and Magdalenah Carson.
According to the Highway Patrol report, the accident occurred at 8:15 p.m. on Aug. 26 when a southbound 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by Jonathan R. Rittman, 20, of Concordia failed to stop at a stop sign entering Hwy. 6 from a side road.
The Rittman vehicle struck the 1986 Toyota Corolla driven by Mr. Spyhalski in the passenger side as it was westbound on Hwy. 6. Both vehicles slid off the south side of the roadway and the Spyhalski vehicle overturned onto its side, ejecting the driver from the vehicle.
Taken to Cameron Community Hospital for treatment of minor injuries were Rittman and two passengers, 21-year-old Kari J. Kemper of St. Joseph and 21-year-old Angela M. St. Clair of Bevier.
Mr. and Mrs. Spyhalski were not wearing seat belts. All three persons in the Rittman vehicle were wearing seat belts.
The accident was investigated by Highway Patrol Trooper Kimball, assisted by Lt. Halford, Cpl. Williams, Cpl. Thompson, Sgt. Cool, the Reconstruction Team, Daviess County Coroner, and Daviess County Sheriff’s Dept.
