The Gallatin R-5 Board of Education set the tax rate at $3.8056 during their regular meeting on Thursday, Aug. 17, 2000. The increase of one-half cent was due to the decline in valuation of the school once construction costs were subtracted.
Bills were reviewed with the note that payment for the amount charged by a speaker out of Dallas of $2,100 was combined with eight other schools, making R-5’s obligation about $300.
Bills in the amount of 124,685.00 were approved for payment.
The board went over the ledger with $130,000.00 transferred from fund one to the general fund.
Under investments, two certificates at 6.4% and 6.5% interest were resubmitted.
The board heard a demonstration of parliamentary procedure by the combined junior and senior FCCLA members. FCCLA advisor Kathy Robertson reported on the group’s trip to Orlando, Fla.
New teachers were introduced to the board.
The board heard an update and then approved the 2000-2001 budget.
Under new business, the board adopted the Annual Secretary of the Board Report and bus routes.
The district travel rate was tabled until the board acquires more information.
Superintendent Ruse stated that the school is ready for the new school year.
Performance results were tabled until September when students scores will be received from the state.
The board reviewed new policies for student services, special ed, etc.
Elementary Principal Martin Sweatman reported the elementary building is ready for students. Enrollment is around 304, but the number will change.
High School Principal Mike Burrell reported enrollment between 285 and 290. He stated the freshman class is very large this year with 60 students.
Admission prices for student activities were set at $3 for adults and $2 for students.
Tammy Harris was hired as full-time elementary special education aide.
