Gallatin started the 2000-2001 school year today Wednesday, Aug. 23. Six new teachers have joined the R-5 staff.

Fifth grade will be taught by Andrea Henderson. Born in Friend, Neb., Mrs. Henderson graduated from high school at Bruning, Neb. She received her degree in elementary education/learning disabilities from Northwest Missouri State University. She student taught at Maryville. Her husband’s name is Chris.

Eleventh and 12th grade English and drama will be taught by Jennifer Chipman. Born in Mexico, Mo., Ms. Chipman graduated from Mark Twain High School at Center. She received her B.S. Ed. Degree in English/speech/theater from Northwest Missouri State University. She student taught at Northeast Nodaway in Ravenwood.

High School business, grades eight through 12, will be taught by Barbara Holcomb. A native of Albany, Mrs. Holcomb graduated from North Harrison High School at Eagleville. She received her B.S. degree in business education and office information systems from Northwest Missouri State University. She student taught at South Harrison High School in Bethany. Her husband’s name is Jim.

Sandra Boland will serve as librarian for kindergarten through 12th grades. Born in Atlanta, Mo., Mrs. Boland graduated from LaPlata High School. She received her degree in business education with certification in elementary library science from Truman University (then Northeast Missouri State University). She previously taught at Hamilton. Mrs. Boland and her husband, Fred, have four sons, Ryan, Tim, Brock and Brandt.

Denise Ray will teach sixth grade. A native of Nebraska City, Neb., Mrs. Ray graduated from Hamburg High School in Hamburg, Iowa. She received her degree in elementary education with early childhood and middle school certification from Northwest Missouri State University. Mrs. Ray previously taught for six years at Jameson R-2. After Jameson consolidated with Coffey in 1990 to form North Daviess R-3, she taught there for 10 years. Mrs. Ray and her husband, Stan, have three children, Whitney, 12, a seventh grader, Courtney, 9, a fourth grader, and Micah, 6, a kindergartner.

David Prather will teach alternative school ninth through 12th grades. Mr. Prather was born in Sioux Falls, S.D. and graduated from high school at Logan, Iowa. He received his B.S. Ed. Degree in biology, with general science certification and a coaching minor from Northwest Missouri State University. After student teaching in Maryville, Mr. Prather taught at Maryville R- 1 West, Nodaway R-2 and Gilman City. He and his wife, Christy, have three children, Amy, 12, Keagan, 7, and Morgan, 3.
