Contracts were offered for two support staff positions during the Gallatin Board of Education meeting held July 20, 2000. Beverly Berry will be nighttime custodian at the high school and Jana Lee will be a special education aid.

Superintendent Jim Ruse reported that the school will be operating with air conditioning on the first day of school, Aug. 23.

During old business the board reviewed the final ledger for 1999-2000 and an update of the budget for 2000-2001.

Board approved revenue transfers for 1999-2000 from fund one to fund four, the capital projects fund.

Bills in the amount of $216,743 were approved for payment.

The board learned that Title One has been approved for the rest of the grant and will operate with the same amount of money. The school faced the possibility of reduced federal aid as the free and reduced lunch count has been dropping. However, the school will operate with same amount of funds for this school year.

An audit was conducted July 20-21 with no findings. Because the school crossed over the $300,000 mark for federal funds, a second two-to-three day audit of federal funds will be conducted.

Board members present for the regular meeting July 20 were Roy Pendleton, Bill Irby, Junior Burke, Stan Ellis, Sandra Alden, Danny Dixon and Vance Hefley. Also present were Superintendent Jim Ruse and secretary Linda Swopes.

The next meeting will be Aug. 17.
