The International Softball Congress World Tournament begins Aug. 11 and runs through Aug. 19 in St. Joseph. The tournament will bring 48 fast-pitch softball teams from around the world to Phil Welch Stadium and Hoffman Field.
More than half of the teams will travel from out of town and at least 10 different teams will be from outside the United States. The economic impact of this event is estimated at $816,000.
The local hosting team in Mierhoffer. The Mierhoffer team has been together for 6 years and in 1998 won the ASA National Championship. They are scheduled to play at the tournament Friday evening at 8 p.m.
