A 109-year-old tradition continues next week when the Jameson Lions Club hosts the annual Jameson Picnic.

Highlighting this year’s slate of activities is featured country music by Jodi Austin and Black Diamond at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. But a popular talent show, featuring four classes of competition, on Thursday night and gospel and country music entertainment on Friday night also top the list of events. A backdrop to all stage events is the carnival by Jones & Company.

Registration for the talent show on Thursday, Aug. 17, begins at 5:30 p.m. with competition to commence at 6 p.m. Then at 8:30 p.m. the popular local entertainment group, “The Girl Friends,” will take the outdoor stage. A free drawing will also be conducted Thursday evening.

Friday night Mike Eldringhoff of Gallatin will perform by singing gospel music starting at 6 p.m. Then the country music group “Thunder Heart” will perform at 7:30 p.m. This group performs traditional, new country and Top 40 songs as well as blues, classic rock and rock and roll numbers.

The Jameson Picnic Parade marks the beginning of Saturday’s activities at 11 a.m. with an antique tractor pull to commence after registration at 11:30 p.m. A $5 entry fee will be charged. Entries will compete in the following antique classes: 3250, 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500, and Wheatland; classics are 3250, 3500, 4500, 5500, 6500, and 7500. Prizes will be awarded.

Following dinner served on the grounds, baby show registration begins at 1:30 p.m. A Lil’ Mr. and Miss Contest will be a featured part of the baby show which begins at 2 p.m. Kids’ games and contests will unfold at 4 p.m.

A ladies quartet, the Melody Makers, will perform at 5 p.m. Saturday. An auction is slated to start at 6 p.m. followed by Jodi Austin and Black Diamond. Miss Austin began her professional career at age five and is proficient on piano, drums, flute, organ and electric bass. She has shared the stage with several country music legends and was the youngest organist in Major League Baseball, playing four seasons for the Kansas City Royals.

Jameson Lions Club members will be collecting old eyeglasses and hearing aids at this year’s picnic. Please contribute your old eyeglasses and hearing aids.
