The Winston R-VI Board of Education met in regular session July 20. Present were board members Wayne Uthe, Chretta Mastin, Bob Clark, Roger Barker, Gary Caldwell, Julie Clark, and Barb Youtsey, High School Principal Wendell Burns and Superintendent David Michael.
The board adopted policy updates and set a special board meeting for July 27 at 7 p.m. to review construction bids on the new addition.
Bids accepted included $400 from Matt Goerne for the school’s old riding lawn mower, 74.3 cents firm bid from MFA at Maysville for propane, $1.096 fluctuating bid from MFA at Gallatin for diesel fuel, 3 cents below the posted price from Winston Pit Stop for gasoline, and escalating bids for milk products from Roberts Dairy, currently at 14.49 cents for 2% white milk half pints and 15.52 cents for 2% chocolate milk half pints.
The calendar of events was discussed, including the first day of school on Aug. 23, a full day, and the back-to-school carry-in dinner for school staff, parents, students, and the public on Aug. 21 at 6:30 p.m.
Lawrence E. Smith & Associates was selected as the school insurance provider.
The board adopted eligibility criteria for free and reduced price meals and set the breakfast and lunch prices to be the same as last year: breakfast — .85 for everyone, reduced breakfast .30 for elementary and high school students; lunch — $1.50 for elementary, $1.75 for high school, $2 for adults, reduced prices are 40 cents for elementary and high school.
The board received and approved a Safety Committee report from Mr. Michael.
The next regular board meeting is set for Monday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. in the school cafeteria.
