A weekend full of livestock, junior rodeo and 4-H activities unfolded with success at Gallatin. The Daviess County Junior Livestock Show attracted a record number of entries from approximately 100 exhibitors.
The livestock show is now edging to the top of the summer fairs held in the area before the Missouri State Fair, second only to the district show held at Trenton. Exhibits included 270 hogs, 75 cattle, 147 sheep and more than 40 horse entries to surpass last year’s hugely successful event. More livestock show photographs and details will be featured in next week’s edition.
The Daviess County 4-H contest was held in Gallatin on July 15, 2000. 4-H members who participated in working demonstrations included RaeAnne Eckert – Making Angel Hearts; Bailey Huston and Nina May – How to Decorate Sugar Cookies; and Andy Ward – How to Make a Clock. All of the participants received a dark blue ribbon and will be going to State Fair and Andy will be going to Interstate Show in St. Joseph in October.
Two 4-H members participated in regular demonstrations and received a dark blue ribbon. Taryn Dustman demonstrated “Is Your Table Set Correctly” and John Rund demonstrated on “Animal Balloon Tying.” Both will present their demonstrations at State Fair and Taryn will represent Daviess County at the Interstate Show.
Girl’s Personal Appearance for 12 and under participants were: RaeAnne Eckert, Bailey Huston, Wren Tolen, Taryn Dustman and Brook Siever. Clover members participating were Paiten Hamilton and Danielle Chrisman. Members in the 13 and older division were: Brook Carder and Erin Croy. Boys entering the contest were: Gib Wray, Denton Wray, Colter Hill, Ben Weldon, Miles Dustman and Kyle Croy. All participants received a dark blue ribbon.
Fashion Revue participants modeled clothing items made in their projects. Participants were Lindsey Robertson – State Fashion Review; Bailey Huston – Interstate Show; and RaeAnne Eckert – alternate to State. All received dark blue ribbons.
Public Speaking contestants were Erin Croy – The Lion, The Scarecrow, The Tin Man and Me; Riley Rains – Angus Cattle; Katie Jarboe – My New Insight; Hattie Rains – Quarter Horse; and Casey Alden – Shorthorns. Hattie and Erin were selected to go to State. In the 14 years and older, Brook Carder will attend State with her talk on “There’s No Joking About Smoking.”
4-H members judged eggs, crafts, corn and cookies. Members judging were: Deanna Mason, John Runde, Ben Weldon, Wyatt Sperry, Paiten Hamilton, Denton Wray, RaeAnne Eckert, Gib Wray, Wren Tolen, Riley Rains, Tracey Mason, Hattie Rains, Taryn Dustman, Brooke Siever and Erin Croy. All received dark blue ribbons. Receiving light blue ribbons were Colter Hill, Aleah Sperry, Chelcee Peterson, Nina May, Danielle Chrisman, Myles Dustman, Madison Huston, Wilson Tolen and Wyatt Sperry.
Talent Show participants were Hattie Rains and Katie Jarboe who participated in tap dance and Lindsey Robertson who presented a vocal number. Lindsey will participate at the Interstate Show.
Nominees for Queen contests were Brook Siever, Paiten Hamilton, Ayrica Batson, Marissa Moore. Brook Siever was the winner. King contest nominees were Colter Hill, Levi Alden, Alex Sperry and Tyler Huston. The winner was Levi Alden.
Members who had items selected to exhibit at the 4-H building at the Missouri State Fair are Ayrica Batson, RaeAnne Eckert, Sara Friesz, Ashley Hale, Amy Hudlemeyer, Isaac Huffman, Bailey Huston, Lance Huston, Katie Jarboe, Deanna Mason, Tracy Mason, Chase Mastin, Nicole May, Nina May, Marissa Moore, Chelcee Peterson, Hattie Rains, Riley Rains, Courtney Ray, Lindsey Robertson, John Rundee, Brooke Siever, Alex Sperry, Wyatt Sperry, Wren Tolen, Andy Ward and Gib Wray.
Additional members who exhibited items were Kinsey Batson, Carly and Whitney Boyd, Stefanie Dowell, Ashley Eaton, Gampper Graham, Taylor Henderson, Colter Hill, Tyler Huston, Courtney Lang, Anthony Moore, Biggs Osborn, Aleah Sperry, Wilson Tolen, Alli Ward and Ben Weldon.
Clover members who exhibited were Danielle Chrisman, Kristin Critten, Myles Dustman, Paiten Hamilton, Riley Hein, Madison Huston, Cally Mastin and Denton Wray.
