The Midwest Razorbacks semi-pro football team opened their 2000 season last Saturday with a 37-8 home loss to the Woodbury Warriors of Minneapolis, MN. The Razorbacks are 0-1 while the Warriors improved to 3-2.
The Razorbacks held the Warriors scoreless in the first half and moved the ball well, but an 8-0 Midwest halftime lead evaporated in the heat of the third quarter.
“We ran out of energy by the end of the third quarter,” said Razorbacks head coach Jason “Ace” Siemer. “The heat hurt our line play and two key turnovers were a huge factor going into the fourth quarter. The loss of our starting tailback didn’t help,” he added.
Siemer is optimistic about his team’s chances this Saturday when the Razorbacks host the South Dakota Lawdogs. “We should have our injured players back Saturday,” he said. “Our starting quarterback will be in the lineup as well. He was not at last week’s game. There are also some new players coming on board Saturday, so we feel we will be close to full strength this week.”
Kickoff for Saturday’s game is tentatively scheduled for 3 p.m. Due to the extreme heat forecasted, it may be pushed back to 5 p.m. An announcement will be made later in the week as to the game’s starting time. The game will be played at the Princeton High School practice field, just south of the main field.
