A special ceremony to dedicate a remembrance for Sergeant Robert G. Kimberling has been announced for 1:30 p.m. on June 28 at U.S. Highway 169 North and Interstate 29.

Captain Johnnie B. Hoggatt and Missouri State Highway Patrol Superintendent Col. Weldon Wilhoit will dedicate the remembrance. Dave Ahlvers, District One Engineer, will introduce a redesigned Adopt-a-Highway sign program with the first new sign being unveiled during the ceremony. Troop H employees have adopted a half mile portion of Interstate for beautification.

The U.S. Postal Service will also have a presentation to honor Sgt. Kimberling. Jamesport Postmaster Carl Wiles will present an enlarged commemorative stamp which “Honors Those Who Served” and protected us from harm.

Robert Kimberling was shot and killed while on duty in the Missouri State Highway Patrol. The 43-year-old Jamesport native was fatally shot on Oct. 6, 1999, by a man with a history of emotional problems who failed to pay for $24.69 worth of gas at a truck stop. The man then committed suicide. Kimberling was the 20th trooper to be slain in the line of duty since the patrol was formed in 1931.

Persons attending this event should park in the Stuppy’s parking lot or at Troop H Headquarters. A shuttle bus will transport to and from the ceremony. No parking on Interstate 29 will be permitted.
