Ida Cox of rural Platte County, filed for the Democratic candidacy for the Sixth Congressional District race.
Cox, 52, is a lifelong Platte County resident and 21 year veteran of politics as Recorder of Deeds. Ida’s husband Craig is employed at General Motors, Fairfax, Kan., as a painter and trains American Saddlebred horses. They own a small farm next to the Platte River named, Goose Neck Bend. They have two children, Ray and Adam, (wife Lea) and one grandson, Matthew Dean.
Ida graduated from Platte County R-3 and worked as a legal secretary in Farley before running for office in 1979. Ida was raised on a farm east of Platte City where her parents Walter and Geneva Reineke, now deceased, raised tobacco, five sons and one daughter.
Gov. Carnahan appointed Ida to the Missouri State Fair Commission in 1996 and was reappointed this year. Ida and Craig are members of the Platte City Christian Church, Chair of the Missouri State Fair Preservation Committee to open the first State Fair Museum 2001, Vice- President Untied States Recorders Association, President Platte County Fair, Past president of the Recorders Association of Missouri and secretary, Present Recorders Association Legislative Committee;
Charter member Platte County Women’s Exchange, past board member Secretary of State’s Missouri State Local Records, Charter member Platte County Eleemonsanary and past society treasurer, Eastern Star Daisy Chapter #86 O.E.S., Missouri Futurity board, past president of Platte City and Camden Point PTA’s, past president Platte County Democratic Women’s Federated Club, past Democratic Central Committee Fair Township;
Past board member Kansas City Crime Commission, 1995 Platte County United Way Chairwoman, treasurer and point recorder Pony Express Horse Show Circuit, past board Missouri Association of Counties, coached elementary girls basketball North Platte School. In Ida’s spare time, she enjoys driving horses to harness and photography.
“I believe Northwest Missouri, is ready for a candidate who believes enthusiasm, common sense as well as passion and determination are vibrant. I believe in honoring the past but I approach the future with high expectations and a desire of commitment to public service.”
Cox added, “The people of this District will have a chance to vote for sincerity, enthusiasm and a fresh face with an open mind. The 6th District’s future lies in its children and their children. Nothing is more important than the right to quality education.
“I support Campaign finance reforms. My campaign will not be about money but people, especially the people who have made this country what it is today. We must find ways to keep Social Security and Medicare intact including prescription assistance.
