Approximately 800 people attended the 62nd Annual Meeting of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative, held in Chillicothe June 6.
Members attending the meeting re-elected three members to the cooperative’s board of directors. A total of 130 prizes were given away in a drawing held at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting, including a 56-inch big screen television won by Mrs. Nova Burnett of Hamilton.
Board President Ron Cornett of Pattonsburg opened the meeting, discussing several areas of involvement the cooperative was actively working in.
Following his report to the membership, Cornett introduced his fellow board members: LeRoy Kern, District 2; Butch Bisbee, District 3; Warren Hoyt, District 4; Vernon Thoeni, District 5; Ray Shield, District 6; and W.D. Richards III, District 7.
FEC attorney Lloyd Cleveland conducted the business meeting of the cooperative, which included the election of directors from District 1, District 4 and District 5. Cornett, Hoyt and Thoeni were re-elected to three-year terms on the cooperative’s board of directors.
In his report to the membership, Executive Vice-President and CEO Dan Bryan focused on how the cooperative was now providing more than just electric service to the rural areas of north Missouri.
“We are now a cooperative that wears many hats,” Bryan said, citing the cooperative’s subsidiary, FEC Services, and its involvement in Culligan water systems, satellite TV programming services, Cellular One telephone service and more. “In a short time FEC Services will be adding convenience stores and a Dairy Queen into its fold.”
Bryan noted the Chillicothe Area Industrial Park continues to grow and add jobs to members throughout the cooperative’s nine-county service area.
“Over 450 people have jobs in this area thanks to our efforts,” Bryan noted, “and we will continue to work to bring more jobs to north Missouri.”
Bryan cited FEC’s stability in providing electric service to its membership, citing 10 consecutive years without a rate increase. “Last winter we also returned over $1 million to you in capital credits.”
In closing, Bryan cited the cooperative’s active role in Touchstone Energy, a program operated by rural electric cooperatives across the country, which is dedicated to quality service and community involvement.
Members elected the 2001 Committee on Nominations. Elected to serve on the committee were Dallas Lowrey, Loren Foxworthy, Eldred Vantrump, Keith Ware, Floyd Flick, Judy Holer and Dennis Widhalm. FEC’s Annual Meeting in the year 2001 will be held June 5.
