Judge McElwain, a Republican, served four years as prosecuting attorney and has served as Associate Circuit Judge of DeKalb County since Jan. 1, 1979.
Judge Warren L. McElwain, 52, Maysville, has filed for the position of Circuit Judge, Div. I of the 43rd Judicial Circuit consisting of Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb and Livingston Counties. The position will become open upon the retirement of the Honorable Kenneth R. Lewis on Jan. 1, 2001.
Judge McElwain, a Republican, served four years as prosecuting attorney and has served as Associate Circuit Judge of DeKalb County since Jan. 1, 1979. According to the Office of State Court’s Administrator in Jefferson City, 21 years of experience places Judge McElwain in the top 10% of all active judges in Missouri, relating to years of experience. His experience includes numerous criminal and civil cases in all five counties in the Circuit and in other areas of the state.
When questioned about why he decided to run for this position, Judge McElwain responded, “I am the only candidate who has judicial experience and I have presided over many circuit court cases in the past 21 years.”
Judge McElwain is a board member of the Maysville Area Chamber of Commerce, the Economic Opportunity Corporation of St. Joseph and the Cameron Community Hospital. He serves as Secretary of the senior citizens housing project; the treasurer of the DeKalb County Food Pantry; and is a long-time member and Sunday School teacher at Maysville United Methodist Church.
Judge McElwain has been married 30 years to his wife, Judy, an elementary school teacher. They have two daughters, Laura, 23, who works for the Senate Committee on Aging in Washington D.C., and Michele, 21, a senior at William Jewell College in Liberty.
